I didn’t mean to. I didn’t even realize I was doing it. But I listened to those who seemed wiser, those with a platform, those who spoke with authority, and I took their words as truth.
Very, very good. We need to test every teaching, song lyrics, etc., against what the Bible says. Satan is very good at twisting scripture to sound good to the ear. Not that folks intentionally do it for malicious reasons. One such lyric that really bothers me is:
"The truth is I am my Father's child
I make Him proud and I make Him smile
I was made in the image of a perfect King
He looks at me and wouldn't change a thing"
(The Truth by Megan Woods)
On the surface, this sounds so good. Yes, He looks at us and loves us and He created us in his image, but I believe he calls us to change to be more like Him. This lyric suggests we are perfect just the way we are. I think we all have things that need to be changed to be pleasing to the Father. I know I do and I'm a work in progress. It takes the transforming power of the blood of Jesus and the Holy Spirit to become what we need to be...without his power, there is no way we can be who he has called us to be.
Wow 😮 I have never even thought about that lyric! I think for me one of the biggest ones I believed for so long was the you are enough talk. When really if we were enough we wouldn’t need a saviour, but for me… Jesus is enough. I hope I explained that well… eek I’ve got a whole post coming on it! Thanks for sharing lovely 🥰
As a new Christian, I didn't trust that I was understanding what I was reading in the Bible. I tended to allow others to 'explain' it for me. And they explained it based on their own interpretations. I am learning to do my homework and study the bible to understand for myself what God's Word says.
Sister… I spent decades just trusting the words of others. And truth be told, I don’t even trust my own interpretation at times. But how good is God that we can first seek the word and check and double check other source materials too to really understand. You’re amazing ❤️❤️❤️
Love this, Sarah! I had to examine everything I had been taught after our church closed in 2007 and we were set free. Not to be entangled again...I studied the Bible. I hear so much worldly wisdom touted as Bible such as follow your heart. Jesus wouldn't allow us to suffer. Or our own minds telling us we are never good enough for Him. It really is the living and active word of God but if we aren't reading it, these mistruths slip in.

Aww, I am so glad you understood what I was trying to get across today in this post. Thank you 🙏 ❤️
Love this! Thank you! Have shared. We need to be more intentional with the Bible. Read it every day for ourselves.
