I had a plan this week as I tried to force myself back into a routine that God had actually pulled me out of. It’s crazy the things we try to regain because we think with it comes some kind of control.
Sunday night I sat down with my journal and wrote out a plan of what I was going to accomplish this week. Even though I was down sick with a cold… there I was trying to make my hours count again. Monday morning came and so did the scrapping of the mile-long to-do list.
What came in its place was my everyday love of journaling, curling up on the couch, easy dinners, reading a book, and rest. Once upon a time, I would have seen that as lazy. Why? Honestly, why is slowing down so wrong? Who will judge me apart from myself and the world of hustle culture where busy equals success or forward momentum?
No one is panicking because I haven’t released a post. No one in my household is starving because I didn’t prepare a three-course meal. If anything, it’s calmer… because I’m calmer. And in the calm and the peace, I speak to the Holy Spirit. He doesn’t have to nudge his way through the chaos of my busy. He just needs to sit with me and hear me talk to him as a friend. When my mind begins to swirl and I get the idea that I should be doing more, he calms me once again with the whisper of rest.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." - Matthew 11:28
So I ask you. When was the last time you unplugged and just sat in God's peace? When was the last time you threw on some sweats and refused to leave the sofa all day long? When was the last time you snuggled up under a blanket and said to Jesus, I just want to lay here and talk to you all day without moving?
I know we have good intentions and so many of us want to be productive all the time. Some of us have no choice as we have a house filled with children who call for their mama every two minutes. But I urge you this week to find those moments. Reach out to someone who could watch the little ones for a few hours. Find a moment of peace in a car ride into town. Sit at a cafe and order an extra cup of coffee while you read that book you've been longing to dive into.
And if you have any other ideas that come to mind, share them in the comments. Throw away the to-do list and rest in Him for a moment.
Love, Sarah xx.
Thank you so much for journeying with me and for valuing my words. Your support means the world to me, and it's through your encouragement that I find the strength to keep sharing my experiences and insights. I'm not focused on algorithms or numbers, but rather on reaching those whom God needs us to reach.
If this post resonated with you, I would be incredibly grateful if you could take a moment to share it with others. Your share could be the beacon of hope someone needs in their journey. And if you feel moved to leave a comment, your words could be the source of encouragement for someone else who may stumble upon this post.
Moreover, if you're able and willing, I invite you to consider becoming a monthly or yearly supporter of the Little Sparrow Loved space. Your support will enable me to continue my journey as a Christian creator, spreading love, hope, and faith through my words. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of others and spread God's light to those who need it most. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness and generosity.

I'm currently studying through a devotional called "Psalm 23 - The Shepherd with Me" during my quiet times. I find it funny, and just like God, that I came across this blog post and read earlier about how He MAKES us lie down in green pastures today. I'm thankful that rest is a necessity that He points out all the way back during creation, when He rested on the 7th day as an example for us. He truly fills up our cups to overflow and restores our souls when we rest in and with Him.
For me, I love to meet with the Lord in my secret place with Him once a day in order to really be filled up and have my heart and mind reminded for the day who I'm truly living for! Also, puzzles with my girls, coffee and worship music, or even going for run are great extra ways for me to spend time with Him. This may even sound crazy, but the Lord speaks to me often when I'm folding laundry or doing dishes! I'm so thankful that He is with me constantly.
Thank you for sharing your heart. Your posts on Facebook are always spot on and super encouraging!
