It’s easy to lose sight of the progress we’ve made when we’re wrapped up in our own doubts. Sometimes it feels like for every step forward, we’re taking two steps back. But here’s the truth: while we may be our own worst critics, someone else is out there, silently admiring our strength.
Hitting rock bottom can be a life-altering moment, if you haven’t read my Refine Series… check it out here. For me, it often feels like the climb back up is longer and harder than expected. There are days when I feel like I’m conquering mountains. My mind is clear, emotions balanced, and the tasks that once felt overwhelming seem to fall in place effortlessly. But then, there are those days when my mind won’t settle. My thoughts feel jumbled, my emotions tangled, and I can’t find the strength to climb the smallest hill. It’s exhausting, and I often wonder, “What happened? What triggered this?”
Oh, the triggers…
Those hidden, often unconscious sparks that reignite the struggles we thought were behind us. Sometimes, they are obvious—an old memory, a familiar face, a certain place. Other times, they sneak up, leaving us dazed and questioning why we feel off when everything seemed fine moments before. And then there are the times you can pinpoint the triggers, but your subconscious takes over anyway, and you’re just left spinning, trying to regain control.
But here’s the whole point of this post. I was talking to a friend on the phone this week, sharing probably more than I should, as always, telling her how I’m doubting things in my life right now. Doubting my calling, my choices, my healing journey… because I’m sometimes flat out exhausted. And some days I just can’t see the progress. Most of all… I’m just tired of the climb.
We all have those days, am I right?
And then she said something that snapped me to attention. “Nope, you don’t get to doubt here, lovely. Don’t you dare let the enemy wear you down and have you question how far you’ve come. The people you’ve impacted. Your strength gives others strength; heck, it gives me strength.”
Wow. Those words hit me hard. It reminded me that even in my most exhausted moments, when I feel like I’m barely holding on, God is still working. He’s working in me and through me. And my journey—my struggles, my victories, and even my doubts—are seen by others. What I see as a faltering step forward might just be a beacon of hope for someone else.
Paul reminds us in Galatians 6:9 (NIV), “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Keep going, even on the days when you can’t see the progress. Keep trusting, even when doubt clouds your vision. Because there’s a harvest waiting, and your strength—yes, the same strength you’re doubting—is a beacon for someone else.
So while you’re busy doubting yourself, take heart. You’re stronger than you think, and your perseverance is a silent inspiration to others who are also fighting their battles. Let God’s truth speak louder than your doubts, and keep climbing. One day, the view from the top will be worth every single step.
I hope this post spoke to you today, or maybe you know someone who also needs to read this and remember their strength. Share this message with them, and remind them that they, too, are stronger than they realise.
With love,
