There’s a time in our younger days where all we dream about is the future. The things we long to accomplish, what our dreams should be, where we see ourselves by the time we’re 30 and then in our 40s. The endless possibilities and goal planning that swirl around in our minds as we set off in pursuit of what will one day become reality.
But life has a funny way of throwing curveballs or is it grace? Before we know it, we fall in love and move into a home for two where compromise becomes necessity.
We give up the dream job or cut down our work hours to welcome new life into the world.
We replace long hot baths with a two minute shower, because dinner needs to be served.
When we’re over exhausted but a friend rings in distress, we make no excuses and get over there as fast as we can.
And this is the point we stop and realise…
That love takes over.
And here’s the great thing about love…
It’s selfless. It seeks to give, never asking for anything in return.
It’s persistent. No matter how much you want to give up on someone, it keeps pushing you forward because it needs to know that the person is okay.
It’s sacrificing. When you see someone hurting, you would do anything to take their place and carry their pain.
It’s an anchor. When all you want to do is walk away, love takes over and you will fight to to save a marriage, a friendship, a relationship.
Love is the very thing that God gifted you. It’s a piece of love itself and a glimpse into how much the Creator of Heaven and Earth loves you. And it allows you to see the beauty even through the ugly moments and continue to press forward.
Because when love takes over, we see what life is all about.
