I used to be a go with the flow girl. I trusted what others said was true. When I had my babies I happily let them get their vaccinations. When I turned on the news I believed the stories. If I had a doctor's visit I took the script without ever questioning if there was an alternative way. When I went to church I followed others examples of what a Christian should look like. But after the last few years, the blinders came off and I learned to lean into discernment.
For a long time, I navigated life with a sense of trust in those around me. Whether it was accepting commonly held beliefs about healthcare, news, or religious practices, I rarely paused to question the information presented to me. I embraced the status quo and found comfort in following the lead of others. It wasn't until a few years ago that I experienced a significant shift in my perspective—one that led me to reevaluate my approach to life.
The catalyst for this change was a growing sense of unease and a desire for deeper understanding. The world around me seemed more complex, and I began to question the narratives that had shaped my beliefs and actions. It was as if a veil had been lifted, and I could see more clearly the nuances and intricacies of the world.
This newfound clarity prompted me to lean into discernment. I began to actively seek out diverse perspectives, critically evaluate information, and reexamine my own deeply ingrained beliefs. Embracing discernment wasn't about rejecting everything I had once trusted; rather, it was an acknowledgment of the power of informed decision-making, the value of personal reflection and falling into the rythym of Jesus where truth lies.
When it comes to matters of healthcare, I no longer simply accept prescribed treatments without question. I educate myself and consider alternative approaches, understanding that my active participation is crucial. The same principle applies to the news I consume—I strive to be a critical consumer of information, seeking out diverse sources and cultivating a more nuanced understanding of the world.
In matters of faith, I've found a deeper resonance in exploring the teachings and shaping my own understanding of what it means to live out my beliefs. Rather than adhering blindly to tradition, I am weaving my unique spiritual journey, informed by thoughtful consideration and personal reflection. I went back to the beginning and sought to go deeper, cross reference and call on the Holy Spirit to show me what needed to be seen.
The journey towards embracing discernment is ongoing, and it's not without its challenges. There are moments of uncertainty and discomfort, but the rewards of this newfound approach to life are immeasurable. I've discovered a renewed sense of empowerment, a deeper connection to my own convictions, and a heightened appreciation for the diversity of thought and experience that enriches our world.
As I continue along this path, I am reminded of the importance of questioning, learning, and growing. Embracing discernment has allowed me to step into a more authentic and intentional way of living—one that honors my unique perspective and sheds light on the boundless opportunities for personal growth and self-discovery.
In conclusion, the journey toward embracing discernment has been transformative. It has empowered me to approach life with a deeper sense of self-awareness, critical thinking, and a willingness to explore the complexities of the world around me. As I continue to lean into discernment, I am excited to see where this journey will lead, confident in the knowledge that each step forward represents a greater alignment with my personal values , my faith, my purpose and an unwavering commitment to growth.
I hope this post captures the essence of your experiences and the insights you've gained through your own journey. Let me know the areas you have been leaning into with God as your guide.
Thank you for sharing. I find myself questioning things a lot whether it’s the news, medical issues, etc. As I research my concerns, I turn to God for guidance, wisdom and direction. Through this process, I’ve learned to be still as I wait on the Lord and be patient for an answer. I’ve always felt I had to follow the norm, but as I’ve gotten older, I see that’s not the case. God has my health and best interest in his hands, and I will follow where he leads me.
