Ever feel like you’re on trial in your own mind? A voice that whispers, “Remember what you did? Remember who you let down?” It’s like an unwelcome shadow, ready to remind you of every mistake, every regret, every time you’ve fallen short. I know that voice well—it’s the voice of condemnation, and for years, it was a constant companion for me. There were times I’d carry not just the shame of my own choices, but even the weight of what others had done to me. I took on all of it as if somehow I had to pay the price.
But in His goodness, God started speaking into those dark places with a life-giving truth from Romans 8:1: “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”Over and over, He whispered this to my heart, like a balm for my wounded spirit, until it began to drown out the voice of condemnation that kept replaying all the things I wished I could forget. No condemnation, my love. Come back to peace.
If you’re like me, that grip of self-condemnation might feel all too familiar. It’s strange how we cling to it, almost as if punishing ourselves will keep us “in line.” But here’s what God gently taught me: He isn’t the one holding our past against us. That shame, that sense of unworthiness—it doesn’t come from Him. He sees every broken piece, every failure, every hurt, and His response isn’t condemnation. It’s grace. He invites us to walk freely, to let go of shame and embrace the love He’s poured out for us.
The enemy knows that if he can get us to stay focused on our mistakes, he can keep us from fully embracing the life and purpose God has for us. He tries to hold us in a cycle of shame, replaying scenes in our minds until they feel like the truest thing about us. But God has a different story. His forgiveness is absolute. When Jesus said, “It is finished,” He meant it. There is no partial forgiveness in Him; it’s full and final. And if you’re in Christ, there is no condemnation for you—none.
Sometimes, we feel like we “should” hold on to shame, that we’re somehow being responsible by staying in regret. But that’s the opposite of grace. Grace doesn’t keep score; it wipes the slate clean. And yes, we’ll still make mistakes. We’ll never get it all perfectly right. We’re human, and as long as we’re in this life, we’ll stumble and need grace again. But God isn’t waiting to remind us of those failures. He’s inviting us to come freely to Him, to receive the mercy He offers without hesitation, and to keep moving forward, unburdened by the weight of yesterday.
So if that familiar whisper returns, telling you to remember what you did, or how you let someone down, remember that God is speaking, too. His voice is saying, “There is no condemnation, my love.” His voice isn’t accusing or harsh; it’s gentle, patient, calling you out of darkness and into light. I still repeat Romans 8:1 to myself whenever those thoughts creep in. It may seem simple, but God’s Word silences the voice of condemnation and speaks peace instead.
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
You don’t have to stay on trial for a past that Jesus has already redeemed. You don’t have to carry a burden that He has already lifted. In Christ, you’re free. You are forgiven, deeply loved, and fully accepted. So, let go of the shame, and rest in His embrace. There is no condemnation for you—only love, only grace, only peace.

Thank you Sarah! You are a voice of compassion and wisdom💜
Thank you, Sarah, for pointing me to this wonderful article Yahusha gave you to write. Romans 8 (entire chapter) has been one of my favorite chapters for some time. I've sent its verses to others who were struggling. Yet, like so many others who have walked this Way before me, we find that it's easier to encourage those around us than it is to encourage our own selves. We are just too close to the one we are addressing; we are too aware of our failings and weaknesses. Yet, Moshiach Yahusha died for us, too. His love and forgiveness are as much for us as they are for everyone else. He never sees one of us as "more worthy" to be saved or helped than the next person. We are all equal, to Him.
Dry times come and go and will surely return again, further down our road. Yahusha HaMoshiach knows that we need wells of water during such times because sand often gets in our eyes and we can't see clearly. He has lifted you up as one of His Water-Bearers to wash out our eyes and refresh our souls. I am glad you stand in the gap to remind weary ones to look to Yahusha and to take another drink of the Living Waters of Forgiveness that Yahusha freely gives to all who Love Him.
