Have you ever wished you could go back to who you were before? Back to the time when you loved without holding back, when you were softer and unscarred, when there were no parts of you hidden in shadows? Some nights, it hits like a wave. You think of that version of yourself, the dreams you had, the people who filled your life, the words left unspoken. And suddenly, you’re standing in the ruins of a past you can’t ever reach again, haunted by all the yesterdays you’ll never be able to change.
Maybe it’s the “you” you miss—the one who didn’t carry this weight, who believed in the world with a wonder that hasn’t lasted. Or maybe it’s a loved one who’s gone, a person who knew you deeply, who you never thought you’d have to say goodbye to. And now, you’re left with moments you can never get back, with memories you hold onto because letting go feels like losing them all over again.
And it’s hard. It’s hard to let those pieces rest, to accept that what’s gone is gone. So often, we cling to what we had, to the dreams we dreamed, the people we loved. But what if… what if the letting go isn’t about forgetting, but about allowing those moments to fly free, to become part of something bigger than the pain of losing them? What if the ache is not a wound but a doorway, leading us to a deeper love, a softer strength?
You don’t have to let go all at once. You don’t have to stop missing who you were or the ones who shaped you. But maybe, just maybe, you can open your hands, piece by piece, and let those parts soar. Trust that God isn’t asking you to leave them behind but to place them in His hands, to let them be transformed into something eternal, something beautiful.
So let it hurt, brave one. But don’t let it hold you. Let the ache rise, let the grief come, and then… let it fly. Because on the other side of this pain, there’s a new kind of freedom. A future built from the pieces of everything and everyone you’ve loved. A tomorrow where you can finally feel whole again—not because you got back what you lost, but because what remains is enough.
Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles… (Isaiah 40:31)

Oh Sarah, this is one that touches to the core. Thank you. Time to let some things fly.
Oh how I needed to hear this today--both for myself as a new mom and in shifting friendships. I read and reread to let the words simmer in my heart.
