Last year, I found myself grappling with the concept of time – sometimes it felt like I had too little, other times too much. It was a tough refine season for me, and one I wouldn’t put my hand up to volunteer for again… but at the start of this year, I looked back and ached for the time I had felt was ripped from me.
You see, I was placing much needed effort into healing myself last year from the battle of my life, I couldn’t give my boys the attention they needed. Don’t get me wrong, my family were more than understanding and a true rock for me, but still… I grieved that I couldn’t give them my all. As I spoke with the Holy Spirit about how I was feeling, I felt the words in my Spirit, I will restore what was stolen.
Can I just say that God came through in a way I didn’t even see coming. Yep, due to circumstances surrounding a school bus and no seats available, I am now homeschooling. And guess what? I get to spend those precious moments with my children! Thank You, Lord.
So, here’s the deal… We may look back on past seasons with nostalgia or forward to the future with anticipation. Yet, amidst the ebb and flow of time, there's a profound truth we can hold onto: God is the ultimate redeemer of time.
Throughout Scripture, we see examples of God's ability to restore and redeem time in ways we could never imagine. From the story of Job, who experienced loss and suffering only to be blessed with double what he had before, to the Israelites, who spent years wandering in the wilderness before entering the promised land, God's timing is always perfect, even when it doesn't make sense to us.
In Joel 2:25-26 (NIV), God promises, "I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten—the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarm—my great army that I sent among you. You will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and you will praise the name of the Lord your God, who has worked wonders for you; never again will my people be shamed."
This promise of restoration echoes throughout the pages of Scripture and into our lives today. No matter how much time we feel we've lost or wasted, God is able to redeem it. He can turn our seasons of mourning into joy, our moments of despair into hope, and our years of wandering into purposeful direction.
But here's the thing – God's redemption of time isn't always immediate or in the way we expect. It requires trust, patience, and surrender to His timing. We may not understand why certain seasons linger longer than others or why certain prayers seem to go unanswered, but we can trust that God is at work, weaving together every moment for our ultimate good.
So, if you find yourself feeling like me, that time has slipped away or that you're stuck in a season of waiting, take heart. God is the master of time, and He is able to restore what has been lost, redeem what has been broken, and renew what has been worn down. Trust in His timing, lean into His promises, and watch as He works wonders in your life.
